Bukasa Women's Development Association

BWDA have been involved in micro-finance since 1993.

They have 82 members who pay 66p ($1.32) per month into a community fund. With these resources they then train women in:

• Poultry-keeping
• Pig-rearing
• Horticulture
• Small business development

After training, BWDA provide finance in order to kickstart small businesses, encouraging women to support themselves and their families. As a consequence they have been able to provide the means for villagers to create their own income.

BWDA charge a low interest on loans in order to contribute towards their own costs. Before they had the support of the NST Development Trust, they were operating on a revolving fund of just £150 ($300).
