Organisations supported recently include:
In Burundi
Opening a women’s self-help restaurant in a poor quarter of Bujumbura, the capital of Burundi. The idea of the project is to provide income and employment for ten poor women and to provide an affordable social facility in a p[art of town where such places are few. A grant of £450 was made to this project in 2007.
In Colombia
Children of the Andes
In DRC (Democratic Republic of Congo)
Training local people to produce lime as an alternative to cement. The use of lime is already well known on the island of Ijwi in Lake Kivu. The NST Development trust was asked for £575 in December 2007 to bring technicians from the island to train local people at Bunyakiri on the mainland in South Kivu province in the technique and purchase of the basic materials required. This grant helped create work and income for local people and helped the population by providing an alternative to expensive imported cement. Simple house construction could use a mixture of lime and sand a-instead of cement and sand.
